Competition Winners Announced..

Thanks so much for all your entries, we were quite overwhelmed in the end…. and we also found it quite hard to arrive at a decision…

We’d like to announce the winners of our competition, but we’d also like
to take a moment to explain our choices.

It was very enlightening listening to all those recordings back to back,
and we learnt a lot, not only in regard to what kind of music local artists
are making (many of who we’d never heard of before), but also the hugely
varied approach to recording/ demoing that you all have.

Some of the demos were rough as old nails, to the point where we couldn’t
make anything out over the hiss and the noise, and some were super polished
by people who obviously had the experience/money/talent, whatever to push
their demos into the realm of finished releases. And in some cases (even
though we liked the music we were hearing) we felt that there was little
that we could bring to it, that it didn’t already possess.

The two acts we have chosen are (in our opinion) quite raw yet
imaginative, which is what we were looking for.

The first is a female singer called ‘Lacuna’, at first we weren’t too
sure about it, but a second listen made us more intrigued at her potential,
a beautiful voice, loop pedals and unconventional instrumentation, mixed
with an almost Olde English folk edge was really something we hadn’t heard
before.

The second is a rock n’ roll band called ‘The Glee Club is Dead’, who
have a trashy bombastic-ness that we both liked straight away, and we felt
could benefit from our recording skills to capture their energy with a bit
more clarity and texture.

We’ve put the Myspace links of both acts at the bottom for you to see
what you think!

xx
